Traditional news media are increasingly engaged on social media. TikTok in particular. And followers of traditional media are growing on social media. On TikTok in particular. The meeting places between information and readers that are growing the most today are social media. Osservatorio Editoriale analyzed how the latter are used by traditional newspapers, with the help of the SocialData platform, which studies the data with artificial intelligence and machine learning systems. Osservatorio Editoriale analyzed the top 160 news sites in Italy by audience (according to Comscore and Audiweb); over 300 social channels owned by the main Italian media; 140 million followers.
The presentation of the study took place at the Rome DY Leads Chamber of Commerce, in the presence of some directors of the main newspapers: Luigi Contu (Ansa), Davide Desario (Adnkronos), Paolo Petrecca (Rai News24), Giuseppe De Bellis (SkyTG24), Agnese Pini (QN-Quotidiano Nazionale), Emiliano Fittipaldi (Domani), Alessandra Ravetta (Prima Comunicazione), as well as Bianca Berlinguer (host of E' semper Cartabianca, Rete 4). MUSK LOSES In 2023 the analysis found, over the same period as 2022: A clear increase in the number of publications on the web and on social media by media outlets, including +351% on TikTok, +4.3% on Instagram, + 1.3% on Facebook. Only Twitter (now X with Musk) recorded a decline: -7.3% . The number of interactions increases: +360% TikTok, +32.6% Instagram, +41.5% Twitter.
The number of followers on the newspapers' social channels is also growing: +300% TikTok, +13.3% Instagram, +10% Twitter. SUMMER TREND Osservatorio Editoriale also analyzed the trend of Italian information in the period between 1 June and 15 September. In this period of time the following were recorded: 600,000 publications; 266Millions of interactions (reactions, comments, shares) generated on the social channels of the media. It is interesting to note how in a generally quieter period, compared to a decrease in the total number of publications (-7%) there was an increase of +8% in interactions on social media: a sign that the center of gravity of Italian information is always more social.
